Refugee & Immigration Support Groups
Refugee Women's Resource Project, Asylum
Aid
- Women seeking asylum face many discriminatory barriers throughout the
process. The new Charter of rights of women seeking asylum seeks to
create a gender-sensitive culture within the UK Border Agency, promoting
a holistic approach to the treatment of women asylum seekers. It does
this by covering all aspects of the end-to-end asylum process: the
asylum determination system, accommodation, welfare, detention and
removal. In providing a framework of principles on the treatment of
women asylum seekers it promotes strategic thinking and encourages the
UK Border Agency to close the gap between policy and operational
implementation of standards.
